A series of video and media art programs at KEN NAKAHASHI, curated and presented by Stephen Sarrazin.

KEN NAKAHASHI has conceived exhibitions by artists working with painting, photography, sculpture. The space is about the synergy among ideas and mediums which engage in a dialogue between the works and with the audience. A dialogue about concept, theme and technique.

Video and media art also take part in this discussion. The gallery will host a series of screenings that will connect with the theme of the exhibition.

“suji”, the third solo exhibition by Erik Swars has been held from February and will stay on show until March 17, 2017 at KEN NAKAHASHI. Swars is a manipulator of dynamic, semi-abstract paintings with concepts of “the past, present, and future self”, “the relationship between the authority of State and government and individuals,” or “the connection between nature and humanity.”

On February 26, during Swars’ exhibition, Stephen Sarrazin will be showing videos by two major figures: French artist Robert Cahen and Mihai Grecu from Romania.

Robert Cahen is a pioneer of video art in France, who studied with Pierre Schaeffer. His videos are explorations of time and how it moves, across the globe through different cultural expressions. His work is also notable for his collaborations with composers ranging from Michel Chion to Pierre Boulez. “L’Etreinte” (2003, 8min.) and “Parcelles de Ciel” (1987, 18 min.) will be shown.

Mihai Grecu, from Romania, studied in France at Le Fresnoy film and media art national school. Grecu also travels, in search of images that have not been captured yet. These are in turn confronted with his use of digital technology to achieve decay, distress and dystopia.

Three full videos will be shown: “Iridium” (2006, 4min.), “Coagulate” (2008, 8 min.) and “centipede sun” (2011, 8min.)
